Frontline explores the Card Game

Correspondent Lowell Bergman examines the credit industry tonight on Frontline.

The documentary will explain the role credit card companies played in the explosion of consumer debt and the near collapse of the financial system. frontline1And Bergman will also look at how the credit and debit card industries are repositioning to stay profitable as Congress considers new financial regulation.

This is a joint project with The New York Times, and Bergman talks to industry representatives, lobbyists, and politicians about what happened, and whether a new consumer financial agency can prevent a future crisis. Among those interviewed is former Providian CEO Shailesh Mehta, whose company provided millions of high-risk consumers with “free” credit cards. He has not given an interview until now.

Highly recommended. Frontline airs tonight on most PBS stations.

    Frontline: The credit Card Game. This is truly the most revealing truth that our government is owned and runned by Big Business. It is an embarrassment and I do see why American is perceived around the world as a symbol of greed. Power corrupts and obsolute power corrupts absolutely. America, live by the greed, and unfortunately will die by it..Other nations are watching us and laughing at us because sooner or later, the motto will be 'America, made in other nations'. China, India and other nations which we used to look down on will now own us and the government who stood by and watched the corporations run the government and own the people will now be owned by other nations through debt(China.and soon India)...Our lifeline, bloodline, moneyline will be inthe hands of other nations. The new motto will be 'America, the outsourced Nation', 'America, made in China', 'America, owned by Big Business', 'America, the greedy nation', 'America, where dit id go wrong'... I know why we cannot see this. a Global economy sounds good, but it is good because the wealth of the world will be shared an as a result those who could not compete before will enter the game and be better at it than America. ..Remember Rome, it too was a great nation and a great conquerer, remember Great Britain, remember France, ...we too must and will be remembered...It is very sad, but it appears to be time for other nations to take the lead...India, China...Europe... Goodbye America..I will miss you.
