A Native harvest tradition

1026DN_waterpotatoes1_320Members of the Coeur d’Alene tribe recently celebrated an annual tradition: the harvest of little tubers called water potatoes. These potatoes look tiny compared to most of the potatoes you find in the store, but it’s one of the traditional foods of the tribe’s ancestors.

Doug Nadvornick of Northwest News Network reports the tribe uses the harvest as a way to pass along traditions to its children.
