Riding the Cyclone on Coney Island
For 30 years, Gerald Menditto has run one of the most famous roller coasters in the country. He’s one of a group of New Yorkers inducted in the City Lore 2009 People’s Hall of Fame.
And here he is, in a fast-paced 10 minutes with WNYC’s Brian Lehrer, talking about the Cyclone, including a chunk of time on Menditto’s intimate understanding of the Cyclone’s condition, based on its sound.
The interview begins about 3.5 minutes in, but listen to that first three minutes, too, for the “musical sound” of the NYC Subway trains.
