The World: Dave Eggers’s 2006 novel, What is the What, is based on the life of Valentino Achak Deng, a young Sudanese refugee. With proceeds from the book, Deng returned to Sudan and built a school. Eggers and Deng talk about their friendship and Deng’s work.
All Things Considered: Marco Rubio wants to be the next senator for the state of Florida. But first he has to beat out sitting governor of the state, Charlie Crist, in the Republican primary next year, and then win the open election for Mel Martinez’s seat. Rubio talks about his candidacy and his rising popularity among right-wing pundits and national talk show hosts.
Marketplace: Michael Bloomberg is up for reelection as Mayor of New York City tomorrow. And while he has been a strong favorite, he has spent $140 million on the campaign. Where did he spend it and why does he think it was necessary?
