Frontline: The Warning
We won’t let all of last week’s public radio fundraising crowd out this episode of Frontline, which continues the series’ tradition of some of the finest reporting on the economic crisis you’ll find anywhere.
The Warning features the first television interview with Brooksley Born, who campaigned to regulate the multitrillion-dollar derivatives market in the early 2000’s. Her campaign failed, and the crash of the derivatives market, of course, triggered the financial meltdown of 2008.
The documentary pits Born against the titans of American financial regulation, all the way up to former Fed Chairman Allen Greenspan. She lost, and we all lost. So, Frontline asks, what are the chances this will happen again?
