Paul Martin on the global crisis

Paul Martin, the former Prime Minister of Canada, has a background in finance, as Canadians know. He was Minister of Finance under Jean Chrétien for nearly ten years.

Last week, he was on The Current on CBC Radio One, talking about the global recession, as well as Canada’s troubles. While those troubles have been somewhat lighter compared to the US, Canada (after years of balanced books) faces years of deficit spending ahead.

Here’s that conversation. Listen

We watched this next interview a year ago on TVO’s The Agenda with Steve Paiken, and upon review, there’s still much that’s interesting here, including Martin’s take on what caused the near-collapse of the financial system, and the reforms he thinks are necessary.
