Assessing last night’s address
It will come as no surprise that there are plenty of opportunities today to hear reactions to President Obama’s address last night. Here’s just a partial list:
- Morning Edition: First, there’s the signature piece from Mara Liasson, wrapping up last night’s address. Reporters also caught up with voters in Colorado, Florida and Indiana to get their reactions, which ranged across the spectrum. Andrea Seabrook got reaction from and Julie Rovner checked in to tell Steve Inskeep
- The Takeaway takes a somewhat different approach than Morning Edition, generally, producing for its entire run rather than pulling together a two hour show and then putting it to bed. So this is snapshot of what we’ve seen so far: Capitol correspondent Todd Zwillich and David Herszenhorn of The New York Times with an overview of where the legislation stands now. Also, there are reactions from citizens at a town hall meeting in Detroit last night. And historical perspective from author James Morone, co-author of The Heart of Power: Health and Politics in the Oval Office.
- Here’s PBS Newshour analysis from David Brooks and Mark Shields.
What else is on the way today?
- Diane Rehm is devoting the first hour to health care – with perspectives from Joseph Antos of the American Enterprise Institute, Judy Feder from the Center for American Progress, and Carrie Budoff Brown from Politico.
- On Point has lined up Gerald Seib of The Wall Street Journal and Noam Levey, health policy reporter for the LA Times, among others.
- WNYC’s Brian Lehrer will talk with David Leonhardt of The Times about it at 10am ET/7am PT.
- MPR’s Midmorning talks to Len Nichols from the New America Foundation, Adriel Bettelheim of Congressional Quarterly, and Robert Moffit of the Heritage Foundation at 10am ET/7am PT.
