The Beatles, next generation

Listen live at 11am ET/8am PT

The video game The Beatles: Rock Band is about to hit stores, and it’s going to be big – possibly a transforming moment for the video game industry. Heck, it might change the music industry, too.

the-beatles-rock-band-thumbThe Beatles have maintained such tight control over their music that even iTunes, the largest music retailer, can’t sell their songs. So this is a big step. It also unites one of the biggest names in video games with one of the most iconic brands in music.

So, is this the latest sign of changes in how we listen to and experience music? That’s one of the questions we’ll likely hear today on MPR’s Midmorning, when host Kerri Miller talks to Daniel Radosh, who wrote about music and video games recently for New York Times Magazine; Aram Sinnreich, Director at OMD Ignition Factory, a media consulting agency, and an adjunct professor in the department of media, culture and communication at NYU; and Jason Della Rocca: Founder of Perimeter Partners, a game industry consulting firm.

This could be a really interesting show.
