Best Couple
Here’s a sneak preview of a story that’s scheduled to air on All Things Considered this evening. The folks at WNYC gave us a heads up; we love this story and want to share it.
WNYC Radio Rookie reporter Vikky Cruz tells how she and her girlfriend Deoine Scott were voted “Best Couple” for their high school yearbook. It’s a first for their school, Mott Haven Village Preparatory Public High School, and most likely in all of the Bronx.
As Vikky tell us, the voting form asked students to fill in a boy’s name and a girl’s name, and yet students still chose the same sex couple. Vikky was nervous about the vote; and she’s still a little nervous because she’s not come out to her grandmother yet.
So, while New York state lawmakers are locked in a battle over gay marriage, a group of high school students chooses two women to be Best Couple by a huge margin.
Don’t miss this.
