Exploring viral culture
There’s been a lot of chatter about how the Internet and applications like twitter and Facebook make it possible for ideas to spread like wildfire. Memes arise out of nowhere, seemingly, hijack our attention, and then either disappear without a trace or become a permanent part of the culture.
Harper’s Senior Editor Bill Wasik has written a new book about, And Then There’s This: How Stories Live and Die in Viral Culture, and today on KUOW’s Weekday, Wasik will offer lots of anecdotes and his insight into why we’re so captivated by memes.
