Following the news from Iran

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and former Prime Minister Mir Hossein Moussavi both said they won Iran’s presidential election Friday. Over the weekend,we’ve seen protests and violence in Tehran, and there are similar reports coming from elsewhere in the country.

iran_electionsReports are hard to come by: Iran is locking down access to twitter and other online services, but bloggers and others are exploiting holes in the “fence.”

Here’s what we’ve heard:

NPR’s Morning Edition included a conversation with Mike Shuster, who is in Tehran. He passes along news of the unrest in Tehran, as well as the decision of Iran’s Supreme Leader to investigate the election results. Listen

NPR’s blog, The Two Way, published an email from an Iranian citizen, who provides additional detail on the police crackdown.

WNYC’s The Takeaway takes the story a little further, asking Middle East experts David Sanger and Aaron David Miller what impact this will have on the Mideast peace process. Listen

BBC News is continuously updating the story on its web site and on BBC Newshour, which airs on many NPR News stations in the morning or afternoon. Here’s their reporting from the streets of Tehran.

This discussion from PBS’s The Newshour dates from Friday, but it provides some good background and looks at the election’s impact.
