Preserving Vancouver’s music underground
Vancouver, BC, is one of the jewel cities of the Pacific Northwest. Chances are, you think Vancouver, and you think about incredible scenery, technology companies, coffee (49th Parallel, among others), the Olympics of course, and… a thriving, influential arts and music scene.
Documentary filmmakers Melissa James and Kate Kroll are working on a film called No Fun City. It’s about the lives of the musicians and club owners who are trying to preserve Vancouver’s music subculture, as it gets pushed aside by new development and preparations for the Olympics.
Here’s a trailer from the film, to be released this fall. It looks promising.
